On the 21 July 2008 The Minister for the East, Barbara Follett   opened the newly expanded Learning Centre at Perkins Engines.

The high-tech training facility at Perkins’ Peterborough headquarters, will also benefit local businesses, educational establishments and other organisations and will help increase the productivity of more of the region's businesses.

The centre, which aims to train 6,500 people from Peterborough and the East of England over three years, upgraded its learning resources thanks to a £825,000 grant from the East of England Development Agency. The centre now features:

A simulated work environment  (a mini automated production line) in which we train lean manufacturing techniques. Some of the benefits the participants gain include, removing waste from any process, reducing safety incidents, reducing costs and improving productivity. This is a great team building experience, which also strengthens communication and team collaboration. This would be beneficial to any business wishing to create a much leaner way of working, whether it be manufacturing or office based processes.

• A CNC Machine (training on programming, operating and maintaining production equipment) the course offers an insight in to Health and Safety, CNC machine components, tooling, work holding and conversational programming at a beginner level. The course is part practical and part theoretical.

• A Robotics suite teaching theoretical and Practical robotics for the beginner with the ability to create a short program to pick and place blocks.

PLC Training

Siemens PLC Training Equipment Designed as a basic course as an introduction to PLC’s for a non-engineering based personal.

•          Shows capabilities of a PLC and what we use it for.

•          Gives a basic overview of PLC instructions and technical terminology.

•          Shows a basic network and how they are used to build a network.

Meeting rooms and conference facilities

Within the learning centre there are a number of meeting rooms, classrooms and conference facilities, which can be booked by external groups and businesses.

Each meeting room and classroom is air conditioned and furnished to a high standard. Most meeting rooms and classrooms have SMART boards and are fitted with projectors, PC and DVD player. We have meeting rooms or classrooms to suit most needs and can accommodate from 4 people to 25 people.

In our conference suite we have an Auditorium with comfortable cinema style seating which can accommodate 115 people. This venue is wheelchair friendly and air-conditioned, has professional stage lighting and a control room to ensure seamless presentation management. The conference facility has a dedicated entrance and reception area and incorporates additional rooms suitable as syndicate rooms or to hold a buffet lunch.

Our on-site caterers offer a range of menus and can also offer a bespoke service. Free on-site parking is also available.

Fork Lift Training

At the learning Centre at Perkins we offer high quality, safety focused forklift truck training at competitive prices, delivered by experienced ITSSAR registered instructors (Independent Training Standards Scheme & Register, HSE accredited) at our purpose built training centre. Free parking and refreshments are available. Lunch can be provided if required. Training can be tailored to your needs and delivered at your own premises if required.
